From Grassroots to City-Wide: Scaling a Startup Community in Seattle
The Challenge:
Seattle Startup Week began as a grassroots initiative to bring together entrepreneurs, investors, creatives, and technologists across the region. The goal was to create a city-wide platform for connection, collaboration, and momentum. But growing a decentralized, volunteer-led event into a professionally executed, brand-aligned experience for thousands? That required vision, structure, and a whole lot of hustle.
Our Approach:
Brand Heist stepped in to lead strategy, execution, and community coordination for Seattle Startup Week—transforming it into one of the Pacific Northwest’s most anticipated entrepreneurial events. We supported this initiative for two consecutive years, building both infrastructure and excitement.
Strategic Growth & Community Building
Grew Seattle Startup Week from 2,000 to 6,000+ attendees in just a few years through intentional outreach, inclusive programming, and authentic community-building.
Fostered relationships with over 80 volunteers who led programming across multiple industries and neighborhoods—empowering them with branding, guidance, and logistics support.
Built systems and playbooks to keep communication, scheduling, and event standards consistent across more than 250 events throughout the city.
Sponsorship Development & Partner Relations
Designed and sold sponsorship packages tailored to value creation for local and national brands.
Secured Chase Bank as the marquee sponsor, providing crucial funding and credibility.
Managed sponsor relationships from pitch to wrap-up, ensuring long-term value and visibility.
Branding & Marketing Execution
Led the creation of all branding assets, from the event identity and signage to swag, programs, and social media.
Managed all marketing channels: email, social, PR, and community outreach—positioning Seattle Startup Week as a can’t-miss event for the local innovation ecosystem.
Created event guides, signage, and digital content to support a seamless attendee experience.
Programming & Speaker Curation
Curated high-impact programming across multiple verticals including tech, venture capital, product design, social impact, and more.
Personally produced and managed the Opening Night, Pitch Competition, and Closing Night events, which became the heartbeat of the week.
Brought in notable speakers, local founders, and investors—balancing aspirational content with tactical takeaways.
Logistics, Tech Platform & Volunteer Management
Oversaw food partnerships, check-in experiences, venue coordination, and event tech for flagship gatherings.
Managed the tech platform that powered all event registrations, ensuring accurate attendee data, session tracking, and smooth check-in at scale.
Built a volunteer strategy that empowered over 80 community members to run their own sessions while staying aligned with the event brand and goals.
Ensured seamless coordination across dozens of venues and time slots through centralized scheduling and support.
The Results:
Grew Seattle Startup Week into a 250+ event festival attended by 6,000+ entrepreneurs, builders, and supporters.
Created a city-wide movement that engaged the full startup ecosystem—from students and first-time founders to seasoned execs and investors.
Built and managed the infrastructure and technology to support a scalable, repeatable experience.
Established a replicable model for grassroots innovation events that balance scale with soul.
